WHAT'S LENT?

Lent is a 40 day season leading up to Easter, starting on Ash Wednesday.
It commemorates the 40 days Jesus spent fasting and praying in the desert, where He resisted temptation and prepared for His ministry.
During this time, we focus on prayer, fasting and almsgiving as acts of reflection and repentance.
Lent is a period for deepening one’s faith, examining one’s relationship with God and practicing self discipline.
By giving up certain comforts or distractions, we aim to grow spiritually and prepare for the joyous celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Tips for Praying

  • Set Aside Daily Time: Dedicate a specific time each day for prayer, even if it's just 10-15 minutes. Consistency helps deepen your connection with God.

  • Use Scripture: Incorporate Bible readings or devotionals in your prayer time to reflect on God’s word and the meaning of Lent.

  • Silent Prayer: Allow time for quiet reflection, listening to God, and letting His presence guide you.

  • Pray for Others: Include prayers for friends, family, the church, and those in need. Lent is a time of selflessness and compassion.

  • Participate in Lenten Services: Attend Mass, Stations of the Cross, or other Lenten services to join in community prayer and reflection.

Tips for Fasting

  • Choose Meaningful Sacrifices: Fast from something that will challenge you and help you focus more on God. This could be food, social media, or unhealthy habits.

  • Moderation is Key: Fasting isn’t about deprivation but about intentionally simplifying your life to draw closer to God. Don't push yourself too hard; balance is important.

  • Use the Time for Reflection: When you feel the urge to break your fast, use that moment to pray, reflect, or help others, keeping your focus on spiritual growth.

  • Fast with a Purpose: Connect your fasting to a specific intention, like personal growth, healing, or support for a particular cause.

  • Stay Hydrated: If fasting from food, make sure to drink plenty of water to stay healthy, and consult a healthcare provider if you have medical concerns.
